The Seti River is an important tributary of the Karnali system that drains western Nepal.The Seti originates from the snow fields and glaciers around the twin peaks of Api and Nampa in the south facing slopes of the main Himalayas. The area is near the trijunction of the borders of Nepal, India (Kumaon, Uttarakhand), and China (Tibet). The river first flows in a south-easterly direction, then turns and flows in a south-westerly and finally south-easterly again before joining the Karnali or Ghagra River. It has cut a spectacular gorge across the Mahabharat Range and appears to be lost amongst caves and tunnels for a short distance.

We reported last week on a boy who got this head stuck in a plastic water pipe and had to be rescued by local firefighters. Apparently, that naughty kid was not a one-off. A 6-year- old boy found himself well and truly trapped between a pair of narrow walls for around one hour in Shaoyang city, Hunan Province on Saturday. The young boy got his head tightly stuck. The boy was in a very dangerous situation and he was completely unable to move, seemingly paralyzed by shock. Local firefighters were faced with a very difficult task upon arriving at the scene, and had to rescue the boy as soon as possible because his life was in danger.

The rescuers used a drill to bash a hole into the wall far away from his head. Finally the boy was successfully saved and is now recovering at home after being given the all-clear by a local hospital.

Pratyusha Banerjee, best known for her role as ‘Anandi’ in the popular serial Balika Vadhu, allegedly committed suicide on Friday. While the police have registered an “accidental death report” for now, sources said Banerjee, 25, is suspected to have hanged herself at her Goregaon residence. She was rushed to the Kokilaben Hospital, where she was declared dead. The police were informed by the hospital authorities.

DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said Banerjee had “prima facie committed suicide by hanging from ceiling fan” at about 5 pm on Friday. “She was taken to Kokilaben Hospital by her friend where she was declared dead… Investigation is on,” he said, adding that the cause of the death would be confirmed only after performing a post-mortem. Dr Ram Narain, director of Kokilaben Hospital, confirmed the death.

The Budhi Gandaki Hydroelectric Project Development Committee has identified the extent of the area that will be inundated by the reservoir of the planned 1,200 MW project and the place where the people living there will be relocated. Nepal signed various important agreements including transit treaty with China. An exhilarating “tightrope race” was held in Chongqing Municipality on Wednesday, with three fearless tightrope walkers vying to be named champion, in a race held on tightropes 300 meters above the ground. The three competitors, Aisikaier Wubulikasimu from China, Freddy Nock from Switzerland and Maurizio Morris Zavatta from Italy walked over a distance of 100 meters on the high wire for three rounds. The race took place at the scenic Wulong county region of Chongqing, with the altitude of the area around 1,200 meters above sea level. Freddy Nock was named champion as he won the race in 42.04 seconds. The competitors had to hold a balancing beam weighing over ten kilograms during the race.

A severe dust storm lashed Nepal including Kathmandu Valley at around 4 pm Monday afternoon injuring seven people.
According to Nepal Police, six people injured in Kathmandu and one other in Bhaktapur.
Two people got injured after a tree crashed them infront of Tri Chandra Campus. They are having treatment at Bir Hospital. In Swayambhu, one person got injured after the wall collapsed.

Other injuries have been reported from Sitapaaila, Kadaghari, Old Baneshowr and Balkot (Bhaktapur).
Storm has also damaged several earthquake temporary shelters in Kathmandu valley. Detail assessment report is yet to come.

The Tribhuvan International Airport was closed for about 39 minutes from 4:40 pm. Two international flights; Etihad Air from UAE and Jet Airways coming from India to Kathmandu were diverted to Lucknow, India
All domestic flights from Pokahara, Simara, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa were also diverted back to the respective airports.

The crust was easy enough to make and roll out, but let me tell you that getting a soft, delicate crust pressed neatly into a tall springform pan is a pain in the you-know-what. It was frustrating enough that the dough cracked into like a 1,000 pieces, but while I was pressing them back together into something crudely resembling a crust, the clasp on said springform decided to pop and now will not stay closed (actually, now it’s in the recycle bin). Not my most brilliant idea, as within a few minutes, the rubber band popped in the heat and the buckle opened up again, cracking the crust. I scrambled around and found a small pie pan that was big enough to hold the springform but tight enough to keep the buckle in the closed position. The dough was still soft at that point and seemed to come back together when the pan was re-closed, but with all those apples in there, I really couldn’t tell what condition it was in.

The sarangi is a folk Nepalese string instrument. Traditional Nepali sarangi are made up of a single piece of wood having a neck and hollowed-out double-chambered body; they are often made from a very light wood called khiro. Proxy students attending this year’s School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations would face stern action. One taking the exams scheduled to be held from March 31 to April 8 for genuine students would face a fine of up to Rs 100,000 each or an imprisonment of up to six months or both. This action comes against the backdrop of reports of proxy students making it to exam centres and taking the exams for others across the country. The information was shared at a press conference organised by the District Education Office, Jhapa at Birtamod on Tuesday.Addressing the conference, District Education Officer Dilli Ram Luitel said that those flouting the exam norms and committing illegal activities would be fined up to Rs 100,000 or face a sentence of up to six months or both under the Education Act 2028 and Education Regulations 2059. Meanwhile, a total 16,979 students are sitting for the exams this year and a total of 52 exam centres have been designated across the district. Luitel said that all preparations for the exams are over and answer sheets have been sent to all the exam centres.

Convertible term assurance covers someone unsure of long term needs. The ability to convert to whole of life should income increase or to a savings plan should the kids finish college, no longer needing cover.
